Introduction

Understanding and Complying with Regulations for Dietary Supplements

The purpose of this course is to provide the certification candidate a basic working knowledge of FDA regulations for dietary supplements under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the AIBMR Dietary Supplement Compliance Course, the candidate will have the following knowledge and skills:

  • Define the term “Dietary Supplement”

  • Understand claims for dietary supplements allowed under DSHEA and how to differentiate regulatory compliant dietary supplement claims from unapproved drug claims.

  • Differentiate health claims from disease claims

  • Identify and describe the required information on dietary supplement labels.

  • Understand the definition of dietary supplement labeling; how labeling differentiates from third party literature and how to use third party literature legally.

  • Be familiar with regulations and FDA notification requirements for new dietary ingredients.

  • Understand nutrient content claims.

Certification
